Heartwings Love Notes 296 - Evidence of Friendship

Heartwings says, "The gifts of friends are tangible reminders of their friendship."

I smiled as I glanced across the room at the pretty calendar a friend had recently given me. She has presented me with many lovely, practical gifts over the years I have known her. I especially appreciate practical gifts because whenever I make use of or catch a glimpse of one my heart warms with thoughts of the giver.

On my bureau top I have a small decorative oval box where I keep my "ear nuts." These small round pieces of plastic that slide on over the ends of earring wires or hooks are vital to me. I know from experience that if I ever neglect to slide these on once my earrings are on I will soon find myself missing at least one earring. Each time I open it I think of the dear friend who gave me this box.

Favorite earrings from one friend are a reminder of her good taste as well as her affection. Warm socks from another warm my heart as well as my feet. Art by one hangs on my walls, pillows by another decorate my living room. Another maintains my web site. These gifts help me remember to appreciate not only the giver but also all of the friends who have been so kind and generous to me over the years.

I have been most fortunate in my friends and I treasure them. As often as she has time to do so one comes over and gives me reflexology foot treatments. My feet feel like feathers when she has finished. Another friend always brings an edible treat whenever she is invited for a meal. As a child while I was fortunate in always having one friend I could count on, I longed for more. Now as I look around me and see the evidence of friendship that surrounds me, I am so very grateful and hope I am as good to them as they are to me.
