Heartwings Love Notes 511 - A Hello How Are You Kind of a Day

Heartwings says, "The spring sun opens our hearts to joy."

It was a "Hi, how are you?" kind of a day. Everywhere I went people were smiling. Strangers waved to one another and wished each other well. As I did my errands I too felt the sense of expansion that a lovely spring day can bring. What is it about the sunshine and most especially the sunshine of a spring day that makes people want to smile?

When people spend time on the beach they act the same way. It is as if the sand and the sea become like our parents, and we can all be children again even if just for a little while. It seems to me that most human beings think they must be grown up all the time, while it is my belief that it is important to let the child inside all of us out to play now and again.

The warmth makes my metaphorical sap rise. After a dreary winter of dark days the light helps me feel young. The light of the sun is so precious that taking it in becomes almost as important as taking in sufficient food and water. Indeed, science has proven recently that too much sun block can prevent us from absorbing sufficient vitamin D from sun exposure.

There are hermits who lie in remote caves that are said to actually live on sunlight and water. How is this possible? It may be that like the green leaves of trees and plants, their skin has somehow achieved a kind of photosynthesis. It is true that our DNA differs only a little from that of trees.

I have an early childhood memory of standing in my crib reaching toward the bright light that streamed in through the window of my room. All these years later light is still very precious to me, and it gladdens my heart to see people enjoying the sunshine, to watch them open like flowers to its healing rays.

May the sun shine into your heart and fill you with joy.

Blessings and Best Regards,
Tasha Halpert
