Heartwings Love Notes 892 - A Patient must be Patient

Heartwings says, "The job of a patient is to learn to deal with issues as effectively as possible."

The operation went well and I am pleased that it is over. Now the work of healing is paramount in my life and the life of my dear and sometimes frustrated husband. I can't bend past a certain point which means I cannot pick anything up from the floor or put on my shoes. When I tried to do more than was good for me to do I was incapacitated the next day. He's not used to cooking or finding things in the kitchen or elsewhere, and it is difficult for us both because I can only help from the couch.

For me there has been a steep learning curve concerning what I have realized is my addiction to accomplishing what needs doing and what I am actually capable of. I have been a "doer" since I was small. I get lots of inner nourishment from this. Being capable and helpful is a great source of happiness for me. There isn't much I can do now except work on myself to get better. However, as I discovered when I overdid the exercises plus the "doing," the healing of this body cannot be hurried.

That said, what I am finding is that this opportunity to venture into unknown territory—my current state of incapacitation, is a blessing in disguise. It means that I am getting more help with the chief study of my life which is learning to know myself. Study of the self is one of he principal underpinnings of yoga. When one gets beyond the exercise aspects of yoga, there is a fine body of wisdom awaiting one. The exercise portion of it was actually intended to help the student to sit still while meditating as well as to develop more awareness.

I studied and taught it for a good many years myself and found it to be very helpful in my personal growth. Now I am applying what I know to my progress as a patient recovering from total hip replacement surgery. In my efforts I have the kind services of the VNA and the good people they send me, as well as that of my dear husband. Their guidance is helpful, however only I can do the work necessary for my healing process to be complete. How happy I will be when the day comes that I can walk freely again. Until then, I will work patiently to be my own best patient.

May you find ways to use your challenges to help you grow.

Blessings and Best Regards, Tasha Halpert
